SPRINGFIELD – Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls . . . please join us as we welcome the seven members of the inaugural class of the Western Mass. Baseball Hall of Fame.

Boston Braves great Walter “Rabbit” Marranville
Al Stanek, Mike Trombley, Bill Thurston, Dan Dulchinos, Garry Brown, Pete Brown (no relation) and Walter “Rabbit’’ Maranville will be inducted as part of the Western Mass. Baseball Night Jan. 31 at La Quinta Inn & Suites.
AL STANEK pitched for the San Francisco Giants in 1963, striking out Stan Musial during his five seasons with the organization. He was also a big part of Chicopee High’s state championship run in the early ‘60s.
MIKE TROMBLEY – a Wilbraham native, pitched for 11 seasons in the majors, winning 37 games and posting 44 saves for the Twins, Orioles and Dodgers.
BILL THURSTON - coached baseball at Amherst College for 44 years, winning 811 games. When he retired in 2009, he had 17 former players working in Major League Baseball.
DAN DULCHINOS – coached high school baseball at Chicopee Comp for 50 seasons, retiring in 2012 with 639 wins.
GARRY BROWN - has covered baseball for the Springfield Newspapers since 1950, including a long stint as beat writer for the Boston Red Sox
PETE BROWN – has left his mark as president of the John L. Sullivan Baseball League, one of the region’s most popular and competitive youth leagues.
WALTER “RABBIT” MARRANVILLE – a Springfield native enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, played infield for five different teams during a 24-year career that ended in 1935. He will be honored in memoriam. “Rabbit” was a member of the 1914 World Champion Boston Braves and is among the greatest defensive Shortstops in the history of baseball.
