SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The Blue Sox found their way to Bristol recently, as their logo a brief appearance on Keith Olbermann’s self-titled show Olbermann.
The particular segment was a discussion about the usage of the Indians nickname for Cleveland’s Major League Baseball team. Olbermann related the story of how the team was purportedly—but not actually—named for a player on the long-defunct Cleveland Spiders, Louis Sockalexis.
Where the Blue Sox came in was this: Olbermann suggested that Cleveland, if they wished to actually honor Sockalexis would be to change their nickname from Indians to Sockalexis, or for short, Sox.
At that point, he noted the two other MLB clubs—Boston and Chicago—which already use Sox, but said that that should be no deterrent, considering other more recently founded baseball clubs use the Sox nickname, including the Blue Sox, and the logo appeared.

The 2014 season will represent the Blue Sox 7th season in Pioneer Valley, playing at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke. The Blue Sox have been a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL; www.necbl.com) since 2008.
